Creator – Director Chaz Bottoms has teamed up with Academy award winning director Matthew Cherry of Hair Love to produce Battu. “Battu” will follow Chicago teens Otis and Jada who are gifted dancers but free spirits who find themselves outcasts in the world of mainstream dance. Battu was initially funded on Kickstarter for $11,432 as an animated short; it is now being developed into a series produced by Cartoon Network. The success of Hair Love, and the demand for diverse animation is bringing attention to black animation and animators who would have been deemed too risky only a few years ago.
