InBetweening

Directed By Mel House

Film Logline: A film about Eric, a multiracial filmmaker with TONS of baggage.
Service: 2D Animation Production
Tools: TV Paint, Clip Studio Paint, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Blender 3D

As filmmaker Eric Linstrom struggles to navigate life, work, and his aspirations to make films, he has ignored his health and that of those around him. As he runs himself ragged, he begins to have hallucinations that manifest themselves in 2D animation.

Turtledust Media produced 15 scenes, totaling 105 fully animated shots. These shots incorporated hand-drawn animation with 3D environments, utilizing a variety of techniques. From motion tracking to camera projection, this project pushed the boundaries of what can be achieved in animation.

2D animation allowed us to bring expressive performances that capture the essence of the characters.

3D tools allowed us to use the virtual camera, enabling us to achieve shots that would have taken three times the effort using only 2D techniques.

Influenced by 90’s anime, we hoped to enhance the story and feel of the film, allowing the director to show events and places that could not be captured with photography.

Our team grew from 3 to 6 animators and cleanup artists to get the film finished and delivered.
